Friday, January 30 UAS held a quite lovely opening reception for the Ohio Art League's 98th Annual Juried Show. The reception was held from 5:00 - 7:00pm and filled with tasty treats and beverages. The awards ceremony for the evening started with a speech by David Pagel (well respected Los Angelos Times art critic, Associate Professor of Art Theory and History and Chair of the Art Department at Claremont Graduate University and our juror for the show.) Most of the artists who recieved awards for their work were present at the opening, including Urban Arts Space's own Eva Ball whose piece "Something I could be," won the Fairchild Award. It might have been cold and dreary outside, but inside UAS was quite lively with a door count of 115 happy faces.
If you missed the opening, make sure to make a visit to UAS before March 27th so you can see the Ohio Art League show. After seeing it, you will be happy you battled the cold and ice in order to do so. As you enter the gallery you will be greeted by Jim Murrin's "Diver," a oil painting of a scuba diver getting ready to enter the ocean water on a blue sky summers day, and all your thoughts of the winter blues will immediately fade.
