One purpose of the OSU Urban Arts Space is to serve as a professional launching pad. The activities taking place in the space this week are a true testament to that concept.


This week two shows provide career snapshots and much room for artistic reflection.
In the corridor of the Space is the 2009 Art Scholars Juried Exhibition. This show features students immersed in various artistic disciplines. This show gives students more than just a chance to showcase their work. The Art Scholars Exhibition is also a learning tool designed to introduce students to the process of presenting and promoting a show. This is also an introduction to the jurying process.


From the budding stages of an artistic career to the process of coming into bloom: The much anticipated Ohio Art League 98th Annual Spring Juried Exhibition is on display in the lower gallery. This show is known for bringing in internationally renown jurors to look at the finest of what Ohio's most artistic citizens have to offer.


Fortunately this provides a ready-made mentoring opportunity for students to learn the ropes and see the possibilities. Not that artists usually need this, but it will also provide some fuel for some vivid daydreams.
