Closed Mondays

Yesterday I bought a few books that border the line of conspiracy. Then it hit me! It had never occurred to me before, but like many art galleries in the Columbus community, as well as many art museums and galleries in the world, the OSU Urban Arts Space is closed on Mondays. Why is this? Is there some type of conspiracy that I don’t know about? So I did some research and found nothing… except that various galleries are indeed closed Mondays and some information on a film that is actually called Closed Mondays. Nonetheless, I have composed a list with a few of my own theories on the closed Monday phenomenon:

1. Artists are resisting Corporate America’s traditional workweek.

2. Mondays, like Sundays are meant to be “do nothing days.”

3. I prefer not to work on Mondays. Oops, did I just say that out loud?

4. Working Monday is bad for your health and can results in a serious illness called Mondayitis.

But, you should all still want to come to the OSU Urban Arts Space on Tuesday because:

5. Tuesdays are generally more festive than Mondays.

6. People generally do not start real work until Tuesday, so we student assistants at OSU Urban Arts Space will be fully dedicated and excited to assist you every Tuesday, after our well-deserved Monday break.

7. Pizza specials are available to us on Tuesdays thus increasing work productivity, especially in the case of the Urban Arts Space college student assistants.

I won’t be so naïve to think that we are closed on Mondays to accommodate us being open on Saturdays (11am to 6pm) as well as open late Thursday evenings (till 8pm.) My theories make a lot more sense… At any rate, Tuesday through Saturday you should definitely stop by the Urban Arts Space to check out our current B.I.G.G Exhibition, featuring artists from around the world, as well as E.F. Hebner | excerpts…2009, paintings by Professor Emeritus E.F. Hebner.

Until next time fellow bloggers!

Jasmine Hamilton, OSU Urban Arts Space Program Student Assistant
